Em 2004, o mundo conheceu o boxe de Ahmed Kaddour, 30, quando o atleta libanês radicado na Dinamarca esteve confinado na 1ª edição do reality show americano The Contender apresentado pelo ator Sylvester Stallone e o lendário boxeador Sugar Ray Leonard.
Até então invicto teve seu cartel manchado com derrotas para o americano Ishe Smith e o mexicano Alfonso Gomez, deixando assim a atração. Em 2006 deu uma pausa na carreira por problemas pessoais, enfrentou um divórcio e regressou três anos depois.
No amadorismo foi hexa campeão dinamarquês, bicampeão escandinavo e membro da equipe nacional. No momento Ahmed "Baby Face" Kaddour (25-2-1, 10 KO's) busca revanches com os únicos dois pugilistas que o derrotaram. Na entrevista ao Córner do Leão ele fala da nova fase e os projetos futuros.
Como descreve o tempo em que passou no reality show The Contender?
Bom... o Contender foi uma enorme experiência televisiva para mim e amei ser um dos poucos lutadores de todo mundo que estiveram naquele reality show. Participar foi uma grande chance de mostrar meu nome ao mundo do boxe e ter fãs no mundo todo, agradeço ao Mark Burnett (produtor), Sylvester Stallone, Sugar Ray Leonard e a TV NBC. Não me arrependo de nada, mesmo eu tendo "perdido" no show, na verdade não acredito que fui superado. Sou um lutador e por conta do resultado não me aposentei e não planejo isto tão cedo.
Você ainda faz anotações sobre seus rivais como apareceu na TV? Como isso ajuda um pugilista?
Não tenho hábito de anotar, mas às vezes assisto as lutas antigas de meu oponente e tento ver como ele luta então discuto uma estratégia com meu treinador e praticamos em cima disso, se precisar mudamos durante o combate nossa estratégia e nos adaptamos. É sempre bom saber contra quem lutará para poder se preparar se ele é canhoto ou não isso faz diferença.
Você esteve inativo entre 2006 e 2009. Por quê ficou fora estes anos?
Sim, é verdade. Eu fiquei fora do ringue por aproximadamente 3 anos e não me arrependo, precisava de um tempo fora, estava passando por problemas pessoais com minha ex-esposa e um divórcio difícil, então precisava de tempo fora do ringue. Não estava 100% mentalmente e não treinava como deve um campeão.
Agora você quer lutar contra Ishe Smith e Alfonso Gomez, os dois únicos a derrotá-lo. Tem obtido sucesso nesta busca?
Tenho chamado os dois desde o encerramento do show em 2005, as últimas respostas que obtive foi que Ishe está com outros planos e trabalhando com Floyd (Mayweather Jr.) e eles tem outra meta para sua carreira, respeito isto e não tenho nada a dizer, mas seria bom para mim e principalmente para os fãs a revanche. Quanto ao Gomez ele disse estar querendo muito me enfrentar, mas honestamente creio que é mais da boca para fora, venha e assine o contrato. Ele sabe e o resto do mundo sabe assim como os produtores do show sabem que ele nunca ganhou a luta, e que deram à ele. Respeito ele como pugilista e homem, e ele tem obtido boas vitórias nos últimos anos, mas o tempo chegou ao fim, se você quiser encerramos isso.
Smith declarou ao site World Boxing News que está procurando uma oportunidade mundialista ao lado de Floyd Mayweather Jr. e que encará-lo não está nos planos agora. Acredita que ele diz a verdade?
Não sei o que se passa na cabeça dele, o cara é adulto e sabe o que quer. Estou certo que Floyd o colocará em boas lutas logo, mas uma revanche entre nós é algo maior que uma disputa de cinturão... O melhor de nós dois, porém não posso sentar e esperar que me deem a revanche, a vida segue e assim minha carreira.
Em que estágio estão as conversas com Gomez?
Não falo com ele (pessoalmente) e nem tenho falado desde o encerramento do programa.
Além de Gomez e Smith há mais alguém que queira no ringue?
Não penso tão além deles, Terei uma luta por vez e meu próximo embate será 22 de setembro em Frederikshavn, na Dinamarca contra Max Maxwell da Inglaterra, o evento é da promotora Sauerland. Sou abençoado por trabalhar com este time, no momento estou em um Centro de Treinamento em Berlim na Alemanha junto de outros pugilistas da Sauerland.
Na categoria dos supermeio-médios (69,9 kg) quem você considera a elite?
Sou temente apenas à Deus! Não há ninguém que me faça duvidar de minhas habilidades no ringue, aceitei todas lutas que me foram oferecidas desde meu início no boxe aos 8 anos.
Quem são seu ídolos no boxe?
São poucos, Muhammad Ali, Mike Tyson, Oscar de La Hoya, Tito Trinidad, Shane Mosley, Roy Jones Jr... estes lutadores são a razão que me levaram ao boxe e claro quando criança adorava assistir aos filmes do Rocky (Balboa).
O que o fortaleceu e fez acreditar neste retorno?
Eu quero agradecer em primeiro lugar minha família e minha namorada que logo será minha noiva, por todo apoio, também quero agradecer a Sauerland por me ajudar a retomar minha carreira, me apoiar e acreditar em mim além. Não posso esquecer do amor dos fãs que tenho no meu coração, eles estão comigo em todos esses anos. Agradeço cada um deles, Deus abençoe todos, desejo-lhes um ótimo fim de ano. O Baby Face voltou!

In 2004, the world met Ahmed Kaddour, 30, when the lebanese who resides in Denmark was part of the reality show The Contender, hosted by Sylvester Stallone and Sugar Ray Leonard.
Until then unbeaten he had his record maculated by two loses, one for the american Ishe Smith and the other to the mexican Alfonso Gomez, which caused his left of the series. In 2006 he took sometime of to return three years later after personal issues with a divorce.
6 time danish champion, twice scandinavian champ and former member of the national team by now Ahmed "Baby Face" Kaddour (25-2-1, 10 KO's) wants rematches with the only two men capable of surpassing him. He talks about the desired rematches and other subjects in this interview to Córner do Leão.
How can you describe the time you've spent on the Contender reality show?
Well... The contender was a huge TV experince for me and I loved being one of the few fighters from around the world to be on that reality show. Being on the actually show was a great way to bring my name out in the boxing world and to establish fans from all over the world. Thanks to Mark Burnett, Sylvester Stalone, Sugar Ray and NBC TV... I do not regreat anything even though I ''lost'' on the show, witch I didnt think I did.. But I'm fighter and because of the outcome I didnt retire and have no plans to do so...
Do you still take notes in your notebook of fighters like it was shown on TV? How does it help a boxer?
I dont really take any notes but I do sometimes look at my opponent past fights and try to see the way he fights and I will discust a game plan with my trainer and we train after that, if we have to we can change during the fight our plan and mix it up... It's always good to know who u are fighting so that way you can prepare if he is a south paw or not that does make a different..
You was out of the scenario from 2006 to 2009. Why did you took those years off?
Yes true, I was out of the ring for about 3 years and I dont regreat that, I had to take some time off because I was going to some personal problems with my ex-wife, and a messy divorce, so I needed that time to be out of the ring, I was not 100% mentally ready and I was not training as a champion should be..,
Now you're searching for battles with Ishe Smith and Alfonso Gomez, the only two boxers that have beaten you. Having any success in this quest?
I have been calling them both out ever since the show ended from 2005, the last responds I got from both was Ishe is having other plans and he is working with Floyd (Mayweather Jr.) and they got a different plan for hes career, I respect that and have nothing to say but it will be nice for me and mostly for the fans to get a rematch, as for Gomez he said he is willing to fight me but I honestly think is more in his mouth, really steep up and sign the contract. He knows and the rest of the world knows along with all the producers from the show he never won that fight, they gave it to him, I respect him as a boxer and as a man, and for his good wins in his past few years, but the time has come to and end, if you want it put you money where you mouth is... End story...
Smith told World Boxing News that he alongside Floyd Mayweather Jr. is looking for a world title shot so facing you is not on his plans for now. Do you consider he is saying the truth?
I dont know what goes to his mind, he's a grown man and he knows what he wants, I'm sure Floyd will get him the right fights sometime in the future, but also a rematch between us is a bigger fight then a tittle fight... All the best best to both of them, I can't sit around and wait for them to give me a rematch, life goes on and so does my career.
How far are the talks with Alfonso Gomez?
I dont talk to him and haven't since the show ended...
Outside Gomez and Smith are there any names that you want to meet in the squared circle (ring)?
I dont think that far, I take one fight at the time and the next for me is on Sept 22th in Frederikshavn Denmark, against Max Maxwell from England, The show is being promoted by Sauerland events, and I'm blessed to be working with the team, I'm currently in Traning camp in Berlin Germany, along with many other Team Sauerland boxer...
In the lightmiddleweight division who do you consider top competition?
I fear no one but God! There is no one that I have ever doubted in the ring, I been taken every fight that has been offored to me ever since I started boxing from 8 years old...
Who are your idols in boxing?
I have few idols. Muhammed Ali, Mike Tyson, Oscar De La Hoyer, Tito Trinidad, Shane Mosly, Roy Jones Jr.. Those fighters are the reason I started boxing, And ofcause when I was a kid I loved watching the Rocky Movies too...
What made you stronger and believe in your comeback?
I want to thank first of all my family and my girlfriend who soon will be my fiance, for all they support, then I also want to thank Sauerland for helping me getting back on track and supporting me and believing in me, not to forget I love my fans from my heart they have been with me thrugh all those years and supported me, I thank every single one of them for that..
