Demais! O trabalho duro e a dedicação valeram a pena e eu me sinto bem.

English Version

The american Layla McCarter, 33, has fullfiled her promise of acquiring another world title in her career after dethroning the south-african Noni Tenge in Nelson Mandela's country with an 8th round TKO for the light-middleweight title of WBA in 09/30.

In this interview to Córner do Leão, "Amazing" Layla McCarter (35-13-5, 8 KO's) speaks about the job done by her agent and husband Luis Tapia and the possibilities of giving a rematch to Tenge, a match with her friend and also condecorated veteran Mia St. John and the currenti belt holders Cecilia Braekhus and Hanna Gabriel.

How was your strategy to beat Noni Tenge?

My game plan going in was to feel Noni out the first round to see how she fights and observe her mistakes. We trained as always. We had no video footage of Noni Tenge so could only evaluate her based on her record. We did work more on moving to my right to neutralize her powerful right hand.

You did not only defeat her but gave her first loss and it was by knockout. How does it feel?

Awesome! The hard work and dedication has paid off and I feel great.

How was your home welcome?

Non-existent.

With the female lightmiddleweight in your hands do you consider giving Tenge a rematch? If so where it should happen?

I would be happy to give Tenge a rematch anytime.South Africa promotes women's boxing better than the USA. They respect women's champions as champions period, so any rematch will likely be promoted there.

You expressed interest in Cecilia Braekhus. Do you consider this match could happen?

Cecilia Braekhus would be a great fight for me if the deal is right. If some promoters wake up to see the possibilties offered by great female match-ups like this one, we are in business. I also like the idea of giving yet another undefeated fighter the opportunity to recieve her first loss to me.

Mia St. John is still fighting although she said that after her match with Christy Martin she would retire. What do you think of her? There is a possibility of you facing each other in the ring?

Mia is a great person who has done well in her career and has a lot of experience. Luis Tapia has guided my career for the past 12 years so I trust him to make the decisions regarding my career. If Mia andI ever hav the chance to face off in the ring, friendship aside, I will do what I do best and come out on top.

There is also the Hanna Gabriel from Costa Rica in the game who is the current WBO titleholder. What do you think of her?

Who?? The reality is that Hanna Gabriel has fought no one yet, so is unproven. I saw the fight with Dakota Stone and thought the stoppage was bogus. I would like to knock off another undefeated fighter anytime the deal is right.

Are you living the best part of your career now?

Yes, and it will only get better.
